No overage charges
There is no per-reply, per-ticket, or per-conversation surcharge anywhere in SupportBot. Not on any plan, not at any volume. The line does not exist on the invoice because the mechanism does not exist in the product.
How billing works
SupportBot plans are a flat monthly price, metered by AI replies. There is no overage charge and no per-resolution fee anywhere in the product, so the number you agreed to is the number you pay. This page explains exactly how the meter works, including what happens when you run out.

Three commitments
There is no per-reply, per-ticket, or per-conversation surcharge anywhere in SupportBot. Not on any plan, not at any volume. The line does not exist on the invoice because the mechanism does not exist in the product.
Several support apps bill a separate fee each time their AI resolves a conversation, on top of the plan price. SupportBot does not. The AI replies you are paying for are the ones included in your plan.
Reaching your monthly limit does not switch the chat off and does not add to your bill. SupportBot keeps answering on a lighter model, with SupportBot branding switched back on, until the month resets or you upgrade.
The meter
At the cap
A warning lands in your inbox at 80% of your monthly replies, with your current usage and the option to upgrade. No action is forced.
Past the cap SupportBot keeps answering on a lighter, cheaper model and switches SupportBot branding back on. Shoppers still get a response. Your bill does not change.
Your full allowance returns, the lighter model switches back, and your branding settings return to normal. Nothing was charged in between.
This is the opposite of the common pattern, where passing a limit either disables the widget or starts billing per extra conversation. We picked degrade-and-keep-answering because a dead chat bubble costs a store more than a slightly simpler answer does.
For contrast
Published figures from each app's own Shopify App Store listing and pricing page. We link the full comparison for each one, and every page states the date we checked it.
| App | What it meters | Checked |
|---|---|---|
| SupportBot | AI replies, included in a flat plan price. No overage exists. | Always current |
| Gorgias | per support ticket, plus separately-billed AI resolutions | 2026-08-30 |
| Zipchat AI | AI-reply-metered plan tiers starting at $49/mo | 2026-08-30 |
| Intercom (Fin AI) | per-seat monthly plans, plus Fin AI Agent billed separately at $0.99 per resolution ('outcome') | 2026-08-30 |
| Willdesk | per conversation, with separate add-on meters for AI conversations and for tracked orders | 2026-08-17 |
| Chatty | per AI conversation, with a published $0.40 per-conversation overage above the plan allowance | 2026-08-17 |
A fair warning about arithmetic: most of these apps meter conversations or resolutions, and SupportBot meters single replies. One conversation normally contains several replies, so dividing one price by the other does not give you a like-for-like number. Compare on your own volume, and on whether an overage line is acceptable to you.
Questions
Correct. Your plan price is the whole price. The only way your bill changes is if you choose a different plan, and Shopify handles that change on your normal Shopify invoice.
You will get the 80% warning email, and if you pass the cap the widget carries on answering on a lighter model with SupportBot branding shown. Shoppers keep getting answers, and your invoice does not move.
Because every reply costs us real money in model usage, and we would rather price that honestly than hide it in a per-resolution fee later. Metering the plan and refusing to meter the overage is the trade we picked.
Starter works out at about $0.03 per AI reply ($9 for 300 replies). Be careful comparing that to other apps: most of them meter conversations or resolutions, and one conversation usually contains several replies. The units are not the same.
Yes, 7 days on every paid plan. The Free plan has no time limit and no credit card, so you can also just leave it running.
Yes, on every paid plan, and it is cheaper: Starter is $79/year instead of $9/month, Growth is $249/year instead of $29/month, Pro is $699/year instead of $79/month. That is roughly 28% off. You pick monthly or yearly on Shopify's own plan-selection page when you choose a plan, and the yearly charge lands on your Shopify invoice the same way. Nothing else about the plan changes: the same features, the same monthly reply allowance, and the same refusal to bill you for overages.
Through Shopify, on the invoice you already receive. We never see or store your payment details, and uninstalling the app cancels the subscription automatically.
The Free plan has no time limit and no credit card. Growth answers up to 2,000 questions a month for $29, and the price stays the price.
